I learned the love of creating with my hands at a very early
age, and have explored numerous creative endeavors. Whether
at wood carving, furniture making, or playing guitar,
I have always loved this very tactile form of expression. I
entered college determined to pursue a career in the U.S.
Army as an engineer and relished my trips to different parts
of the world. Everything changed when I met my loving wife
in 1995. I now have a wonderful family and channel my
engineering knowledge into the crazy, competitive technology
industry, which has heightened the need to be able to create
with my hands whenever possible.
I made my first quilt in 1990 – on a dare! Challenged by a
loved one, I poured my analytical skills into solving
the complexities around making this quilt. I had no
idea how to make a quilt; and after months of cutting,
piecing, stitching and sewing, I happily gazed upon my
finished work. Along the way, I accidentally
discovered how relaxing the process can be. Once I
completed my second quilt, for an aunt, I realized I had a
new passion. Creating the layout and design for a new
quilt always awakens my engineering talents while the
preciseness required for
connecting all the pieces draws on my skills from furniture
making. Slowly working the intricate quilting permits
me the time to witness the emergence of beauty in the quilt.
A quilt designed for a king sized bed typically takes
approximately 100 hours of commitment and requires patience.
Over the years, quilting has blessed me with patience
and a better appreciation for life overall.
I
have continued to hone my skills over the years and explored
unique designs that brought surprising results. The
imagination is the only limit to what a quilt can become.
My quilting has given my life experiences that I cherish.
I've always taken projects with me when traveling for
business and am always surprised by how open, responsive
people become when they see a man quilting. I have
unexpectedly met wonderful people in Asia, Europe,
South America and throughout cities in the United States
through these impromptu quilting sessions.
I can't
wait to see what the coming years might hold for me, my
family and my quilting. I hope that you are blessed
with the opportunity to peek into the world of quilting.
Please enjoy!
